Dear Dr. J.K. Mulloy School Community,
As we step into the new year, I am filled with excitement and gratitude for the journey ahead and for the exceptional contributions of our staff, students, and community. Our commitment to equity, pursuit of personal excellence across all disciplines, and character education remains unwavering.
Highlights
Over the past four months, our new Administrative Team has been warmly welcomed into this community. Highlights include:
- - being back to in-person meet the teacher and student learning conferences. (A special thank you goes to the School Council for organizing an amazing potluck during the conferences),
- - the Grade 3 and 4 Music Celebration, and the school choir's performances at the field of crosses,
- - Student Advisory Committee which has already had a significant impact on student equity and special events through providing a platform to voice their ideas and feedback,
- - And the many acts of service to the community by our students and staff showcasing the vibrant spirit of Dr. J.K. Mulloy School.
Our School Council's Enhancement Society deserves special recognition for providing diverse learning opportunities, from musical theatre to learning lacrosse skills, enriching our students' educational experience.
I am truly awed by the commitment of our entire staff, from facility operators and support staff to teachers, ensuring an exceptional learning environment. I am confident in our dynamic team's ability to overcome obstacles and continue striving for excellence.
Winter is upon us
As the winter season approaches, please ensure students are dressed appropriately for the weather, and let's drive cautiously around the school grounds. Safety is our top priority, and I urge everyone to park at least 5 meters away from all crosswalks to ensure our students can cross safely.
Additionally, as the snow begins to fall, let's encourage responsible and creative winter play, focusing on building snow structures rather than throwing snow. Remember, snow is for building, not throwing.
The wind and snow can create icy conditions for walking up and down on our hills by our playground. We kindly ask all students to follow supervisors' instructions when navigating the snow-covered hills. In situations of uncertainty, we strongly urge students to avoid walking down icy hills.
When supervisors give the okay for sliding down the hills, we have some important safety guidelines in place for our students. Students are asked to ensure that no one is positioned below them and slide only on their bottom (only while wearing snow pants), with feet going down first. These precautions are crucial for maintaining a safe and enjoyable winter play environment.
Reminders
Homework expectations are in place for grades 1-4. Parents are expected to support their children in completing their assigned homework. In Kindergarten, parents are encouraged to read and review with their child on a nightly basis to support literacy development. Uniforms play a crucial role in the TLC program, fostering a sense of identity, unity, and professionalism. We kindly ask for your cooperation in adhering to uniform expectations.
Upcoming events
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for upcoming events, including the non-instructional day on January 15th, Popcorn Day on January 16th (thanks to our School Enhancement Society), and the School Council and Enhancement Society meeting on January 18th. On January 30th, report cards will be available in MyCBE for students and families. It is expected and crucial to review report cards to support your child and your child's teachers in building on each student's strengths and working towards next steps in their areas for growth.
Please note that report cards are no longer printed for families.
Thank you for your continued dedication to the success and well-being of our students. Wishing you a joyful and successful year ahead!
Warm regards,
Gavin Schumm
